Sobre la familia

The Waldorf typeface, originally designed digitally by Joachim Frank in the 1990s, draws inspiration from the organic forms of anthroposophy. With the introduction of the Avelda typeface, this iconic font has been reimagined after more than 30 years, presenting a clearer, more elegant, and modern aesthetic while honoring its organic roots. Reflecting the diversity of nature, Avelda features a harmonious blend of thick and thin strokes, along with tall and short letters, ensuring that no two characters are alike. The letters interact naturally; some are closely spaced, while others maintain an elegant distance. Certain letters stand out prominently, while others subtly blend into the corners, creating a typeface that embodies the beauty and diversity of nature. Ideal for branding, editorial design, and web applications, Avelda, with its distinctive character and OpenType features, provides a unique and versatile typographic solution. The name Avelda is derived from Veleda: it comes from a Germanic seeress of the Bructeri tribe. According to Tacitus, this tall maiden lived secluded from the profane world in a tower near the Lippe River. In this role, the seeress communicated only through relatives who relayed her inquiries and answers. Today, she would likely use a computer (and her script).

Acerca de Joachim Frank

Anthroposophical fonts for everybody. In nature there are no right angles, straight lines or complete uniformity, but instead round corners, varying thicknesses and all kinds of variability. This is what the anthroposophical movement created in their buildings, their art, in their music – and also in their lettering.Take a look at the brand of Weleda (the natural cosmetics company), Demeter (one of the biggest organic foods companies), Filderklinik (a great anthroposophical hospital in Germany) and you will see these great companies work with different but organic letter styles.
