Sobre la familia

Kufi 2.0 draws on the style of the ancient Arabic calligraphy known as kufi mus'hafi, reworked to offer better readability for contemporary readers.

True to GrafikarFonts' approach, we've prioritized harmony between the Arabic and Latin glyphs for a consistent look when both scripts are used side by side (multi-script). The typeface also features contextual ligatures rather than discretionary ones, reducing the number of glyphs needed while preserving the same visual richness and aesthetic quality.

Kufi 2.0 comes with a full set of OpenType features designed for polished typesetting in both scripts :

- Required and contextual ligatures (rlig, clig) to preserve calligraphic fluidity without multiplying glyphs

- Glyph composition and decomposition (ccmp) for proper handling of diacritics and complex combinations

- Localized forms (locl) to adapt to regional writing conventions

- Access to all alternates (aalt) for easy exploration of available variants

- Advanced numerals and fractions : numerators and denominators (numr, dnom), automatic fractions (frac)

- Scientific subscripts and superscripts (sinf, subs, sups) for technical typesetting needs

- A stylistic set (ss01) offering an additional aesthetic variant for glyphs that support it

This functional richness lets Kufi 2.0 adapt equally well to classic editorial use and to more demanding typographic needs, without ever sacrificing visual consistency between the Arabic and Latin scripts.

Acerca de GrafikarFonts

The Arabic writing is fundamentally based on the calligraphic look and the relation between the letters that shift shape at each connection between them. GrafikarFonts’s aim is to create fonts out of Arabic symbols that’s influenced from this calligraphic tradition all while keeping in touch with a modern and digital world, making sure to match to practical needs as well. Often, in the Arabic language, we have to write words from Latin and that’s another goal of GrafikarFonts; to design smooth Arabic, Latin and Tamazight Tifinagh fonts that harmonize together.
