Sobre la familia

Royal Portasear brings the unique distressed look of a rummage sale find to the digital age, that of a old Sears Portable typewriter. Royal Portasear maintains the tooth and grit of its as-is discovered condition without any cleaning - old typewriter, inked up keys, crummy ribbon. This typeface reads optimally at smaller typesettings. It's a unique typewriter typeface that exudes ephemeral quality reminiscent of redacted documents and old mimeographs of typewritten memos.

Antique typewriters would type with a warmth and appeal to them, primarily because of their unpredictable “grunge” results from force of keystrokes to ribbon and paper and we've tried to keep that flavor by adding an alternate set of Capitals, Lowercase, and Numerals that will auto swap in as you type (when Contextual Alternates is enabled) adding subtle variance to the letters.

OpenType features include:

  • Standard typesetting character set.

  • Stylistic Alternates variant Capitals, Lowercase, and Numerals sets.

  • Contextual Alternates feature which auto enables switching between the two sets as you type)
