Sean Johnson

Sean Johnston is a type designer based in England. Growing up in the 80s, he cut his teeth on big bold letterforms as a graffiti artist. He's spent over 25-years as a multi-disciplinary designer across web, product, and brand. Typography has remained a constant thread throughout his work. In 2008 he published his first font, Hand of Sean, which has passed four million downloads. His type work has included clients such as the BBC, Hertz, EA Games, Monotype, and Font Bureau. In 2026, he stepped away from the tech industry to focus on his type discipline, now designing typefaces and custom fonts through his independent foundry — Johnson Type Co.
