Stepan Kazintsev

Stepan Kazintsev is a type and brand designer with a diverse range of interests within the graphic design field. He combines a passion for type design with extensive experience in branding and typography.

In 2023, Stepan graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), Graphic and Digital Design course. During his studies there, he became proficient in the full Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and learned the basics of typography. Afterwards, he decided to enrich his knowledge by self-education and covered the use of FontForge software.

Most of his career, Stepan worked as a brand and logo designer, while typeface design was always a side hobby and a great passion of his. During his studies at the University of Nicosia, he designed his first experimental typefaces: “Innsmouth” and “October”. The last one was presented as a final graduation project and was marked with the highest score by the lecturers. After the graduation, Stepan designed “Geula”, “Rosephina”, and “Unboxa”, as part of his self-education using “FontForge” software.

Stepan’s design philosophy can be described as an art of creating typefaces as self-sufficient, outstanding products with their own brand identity and scent. Every typeface is being treated as if it were a living person with its own unique character and posture. Apart from that, quality is another big focus in the designer’s work. Every typeface goes through three or four phases of pixel-perfect quality control tests in order to enhance maximum legibility.

Stepan mainly specializes on designing the display typefaces, but is eager to experiment on text typefaces for web as well as for printed media.

He mainly creates his typefaces using Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Illustrator in particular) and FontForge software.

Stepan loves to spend his spare time with his loved ones, or accompanied by a good piece of non-fiction historical literature. His passion for typography also makes this field his hobby, since he enjoys it so much.
