Some typefaces explain themselves, but Telegdi Antiqua does not need to.
In 1577, Abbot Nicolaus Telegdi acquired the dormant press of the Vienna Jesuits — funded by the Emperor and the Esztergom Chapter — and installed it in his own house in Nagyszombat (Trnavia). Although he was already the bishop of Pécs in title, the Ottomans held the city, preventing him from going south. Instead, he went north and built.
The typefaces that came with that press were already worn, and Telegdi did not wait for new ones. He set his sermons in letters that had already lived a life — high contrast, sharp terminals, and a rhythm slightly irregular from use. That decision, to embrace imperfection as authenticity, became the soul of everything that followed.
Telegdi Antiqua draws directly from those letterforms. It works at 8pt in a footnote and at 120pt on a poster. It has appeared in book publishing, cultural institutions, and commercial work across two and a half decades without ever trying to be contemporary. That is precisely why it still is. Use it when the work needs weight without noise, history without costume, and character without apology.

Acerca de Monovo

Monovo is the innovative type universe crafted by Amondó Szegi, a distinguished type designer and educator at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) in Budapest. As the founder of Fontanatype, Hungary's first internationally recognized digital type foundry established in 1999, Szegi brings over 25 years of expertise to the field. His typefaces have gained prominence through T-26, where several designs reached bestseller status, alongside P22/IHOF and The Type Foundry. Licensed by Canva, his work continues to enhance editorial design, brand identity, and cultural projects globally. Fontanatype uniquely bridges historical references with contemporary practices, translating rhythm, structure, and typographic intelligence into functional type systems that respect tradition while innovating. Monovo builds upon this legacy with a conceptual focus, embodying the belief that letterforms are dynamic tools of communication—shaped by history, culture, and practical application, from editorial text to expressive design. Drawing inspiration from the rich lineage of typographic forms and the intentional challenge of rule-breaking, Monovo produces flat, iconic, and versatile typefaces that convey clarity, warmth, and purpose. Through Monovo, Szegi delves into appropriation, revival, and reinterpretation, treating letters as conceptual ready-made objects while broadening the creative horizons of type in contemporary design.
