Sobre la familia

A display block with a little bit of Midwestern grit & elbow grease.

In 2021, Zilligen Design Studio released a refreshed identity system that included a a handful of logo lockups and graphic elements, but it was missing a core asset — a custom typeface that speaks the language of sport. Nearly 3 years later, ZDS Display came to be.

This typeface wears a chiseled build, familiar to the landscape, while mixing visual cues of sans-serif and slab-serif styles to compliment a look that we like to call "gritty Midwestern". We defined this style as pieced-together, blunt-cornered, and utilitarian — personified by a "NOW OPEN" sign hung on the weathered exterior of an old shop in America's heartland — oozing sweat and elbow grease. Originally founded 40 miles outside of Chicago, this feeling is interwoven in the studio's DNA, and ZDS Display is the representation of it.

With 3 widths, a hefty character set — alternates, symbols, manicules, and more — this typeface prepared to leave it all out on the field.
