About the family

Acqua Aldina is probably the most difficult of all my fonts. It took him a year of work, and mostly manual. This variable font, drawn for maps of Venice, depicts water. In the light part, it turns into individual drops. It blurs in spots in the dark.

The letters are deliberately distorted, floating, stretching. But at the same time, they never stop reading — this was the main condition set for himself.

Four axes allow you to control the width, density, stretch the tails, and finally distort the shape.

In the very depths of the Aqua is one of the first italics by Francesco Griffo, cut for Aldus Manutius. And then stylistic sets turn Renaissance italics into a Baroque script. Which, in turn, can be reduced to almost irregular calligraphy.

To be honest, I don't want to sell Aldine at all. It is not intended for ordinary typography. Hence the evil price. But if you can't do without her and find a case for her by the way, she won't disappoint you.
