About Khat Type

My name is Mohamad Shadiq, and I design fonts under the foundry name Khat Type, which was previously known as Bandofol Studio. Bandofol is my family name from my father’s lineage, and I initially used it as a form of tribute. However, over time, I decided to change the name to Khat Type because I wanted to focus on developing Arabic-style fonts. Before I decided to fully focus on being a font designer, I worked as a graphic designer for four years, starting during my college days. I often created banner designs for my campus organization. After graduation, I shifted my focus to font design because I had taken a calligraphy course during college, which gave me a solid foundation to explore the world of type design. With those skills, I began my journey as a creator of handwritten-style fonts. My first font, Nalalanda, a brush-style font, was released in mid-2020. It marked the beginning of my contribution to the world of graphic design through handwritten-style fonts. After releasing several fonts, I found immense satisfaction in creating fonts from my own hand. This sense of fulfillment has been my constant motivation to keep writing and designing new fonts. At that time, up until the name Bandofol Studio transitioned into Khat Type, I had released five fonts through the shop.In my spare time, I enjoy sketching letters for new fonts. Currently, I have nearly 15 font sketches ready to be turned into vector designs and developed into font products. Many people have even shown interest in purchasing or offering prices for my sketches and vector files after I posted rough drafts on my personal account.I create and release fonts through Khat Type from my home in Palu City, Indonesia. I’m grateful that Indonesia has many talented font designers and a special community for type creators. Through this community, I’ve learned a lot about creating and producing high-quality fonts.Aside from my busy schedule and passion for font design, I also enjoy finding inspiration for new fonts by exploring various graphic design products. Additionally, I love exercising and enjoying a cup of coffee to maintain my physical health, clear mind, and creative spirit to stay productive.
