About the family

Antique Olive™, designed between 1962 and 1966 by Roger Excoffon for Fonderie Olive, stands as a masterful blend of humanist sans serif elegance and distinctive character shapes. With its lively, reverse-stroke contrast and monumental x-height, Antique Olive offers a freshness and readability that defy its vintage origins.

Far from being merely retro, Antique Olive is thriving today in premium contexts. It continues to be favored in cosmetic and wine packaging, fashion editorials, and gallery or museum signage. Antique Olive resists the neutrality of traditional sans serif designs, adding personality to luxury narratives. Its tapered terminals and reverse-stress features create visual rhythm and presence.

Antique Olive’s large lowercase x-height and condensed character proportions also give display sizes strong visibility and effective use of space. An added benefit of Antique Olive is that it is one of the few sans-serif designs that mixes well with other sans-serif typefaces.
