About the family

BDFlat is a clean and versatile comic-style typeface designed to balance expressiveness with clarity. Built with simplicity in mind, it captures the natural rhythm of hand-drawn lettering while maintaining a solid, well-structured typographic foundation. The design avoids exaggerated quirks, making BDFlat highly readable and adaptable across a wide range of uses. Its friendly yet controlled character makes it ideal not only for comics and graphic novels, but also for children’s books, editorial illustrations, educational material, storyboards, indie games, and playful branding. The family includes Roman, Medium, Bold, Medium Italic, and Bold Italic, allowing for clear hierarchy, emphasis, and narrative flow within dialogue, captions, and sound effects. Italic styles are optimized for emphasis and motion, while bold weights provide strong visual impact without overpowering the page. With a total of 901 glyphs, BDFlat offers extensive multilingual and symbolic support, covering: Basic Latin Latin-1 Supplement Latin Extended-A Latin Extended-B Spacing Modifier Letters Greek and Coptic Cyrillic General Punctuation Currency Symbols Letterlike Symbols Arrows Mathematical Operators Miscellaneous Technical Geometric Shapes Miscellaneous Symbols CJK Symbols and Punctuation Alphabetic Presentation Forms Private Use Area (Plane 0) This broad character set makes BDFlat suitable for international projects, technical layouts, and creative experimentation beyond traditional comic lettering.
