About Berthold Caslon Book Font Family

Prior to designing Berthold Caslon Book, Günter Gerhard Lange intensively researched both the English type founder William Caslon’s 1725 types, and the Dutch forerunners of the 17th century upon which Caslon based his work. H. Berthold released Berthold Caslon Book in 1977. Berthold’s Caslon is a popular choice for large bodies of text and also for display work.

About Berthold

The H. Berthold typefoundry, renowned for crafting high-quality typefaces, was founded in 1858 by Hermann Berthold in Berlin. By 1918 the foundry had become the largest in the world, with offices in Stuttgart, St. Petersburg, Leipzig, Riga, Budapest and Vienna. To complement its proprietary typesetting equipment business activities, Berthold developed high quality typefaces. The H. Berthold foundry’s most celebrated family of typefaces is arguably Akzidenz-Grotesk (released 1896), known as the mother of all sans serifs. The Premium foundry page can be viewed Here.
