Gary Jaffe

Training began at the Graphic Arts Preparation Workshop in Manhattan, NYC, under the tutelage of Newton Meyers.

First employment took place at The Cittone Institute (later Lincoln Technical Institute) as the sole designer for the in-house graphics department covering campuses located in several states. Then, starting a freelance home-based graphic design business, and inspired by the love of letterforms, focus gravitated from print and web design to font creation using Fontlab software.

Display fonts are the favored form, so useful for signage (business, building, billboard, etc), A-frames, news and advertising headlines, brochures, book jackets, menus, and the like.

Graphic design has been a gift to me, to pay my way, and to enjoy working. At first using photography in conjunction with vector drawing, letterforms soon became the source of great pleasure as well as painstaking work. For me, letterforms add both beauty and function to life.

Letterforms drew my eyes and then, I thought to draw them with my pen.
