About the family

Introducing GUMMIER: A Typographic Sugar Rush Gummier is a display typeface that unapologetically celebrates the unadulterated joy of childhood. Designed with a deep appreciation for the vibrant, tactile aesthetic of classic sweetshop packaging, it is a font that feels less like it was drawn and more like it was excitingly inflated, just like what you did with your first bubble gum. Visual Anatomy and Form - The architecture of Gummier can be defined by these simple adjectives: Plump: The letterforms boast an exaggerated, heavy weight that commands immediate visual attention without ever feeling aggressive or imposing. Buoyant: Despite its considerable mass, the rounded terminals and generous outer curves give the typeface a remarkably weightless, floating quality. Squishy: The deliberate absence of sharp angles, rigid stems, or harsh geometric intersections creates a very friendly appearance. Cheeky: The bouncy baseline and the tight inner counters—particularly noticeable in the lowercase 'a' and 'e'—lend a subtle, animated irreverence to the typesetting. Two Distinct Styles: Shiny and Regular Gummier Shiny: Featuring a carefully placed, pill-shaped specular highlight nestled in the top right corner of the characters. This "shining bit" instantly transforms the flat silhouette into a three-dimensional, glossy object. It expertly mimics the sheen of a freshly unwrapped sweet or a perfectly blown bubble just moments before it pops. Gummier Regular: For layouts requiring a slightly more restrained execution, this style strips away the highlight. What remains is a bold, undeniably solid typographic footprint. It retains the soft, gummy contours but provides a flatter, more modern graphic punch, making it ideal for solid color blocking or instances where a highlight might clutter the visual hierarchy. The Emotional Narrative Typography fundamentally communicates emotion, and Gummier was based on what I think a universally cherished memory. The design draws directly from the visceral excitement of being handed a brightly colorful packet of my favorite bubble gum from my mother that had all the available flavors mixed in one package. I still remember her stern warning for me to not swallow it. Ideal Applications - Given its approachable nature, Gummier is intended for a variety of applications: Packaging: Brilliant for sweets, snacks, and playful consumer goods. Editorial: A great choice for children's books, comic sound effects, or elementary classroom projects. Branding: Perfect for toy shops or any brand wishing to inject high-energy nostalgia into their visual identity. As with other typefaces from Hanoi Cartel Type Co. Gummier supports many international characters and languages, including Vietnamese, Lithuanian and many in between. Please check the characters list for more information about what language we support.

About Hanoi Cartel

Hanoi Cartel is a type foundry based in Hanoi, Vietnam, dedicated to crafting soulful and culturally resonant typefaces. The foundry places a strong emphasis on extensive language support, aims to make its typefaces accessible and versatile for diverse linguistic needs.Deeply rooted in Vietnam’s visual history, Hanoi Cartel draws inspiration from two opposite yet influential design traditions of Vietnamese typography in the 20th century: The bold, assertive lettering styles of Vietnamese communist-era propaganda posters , which is very well-known for their powerful visual impact and ideological clarity. The intricate, handcrafted lettering of advertising boards in southern Vietnam before 1975, which reflect a more commercial, artisanal aesthetic with very creative solution for diacritics. By appreciating these visual legacies, we strive to create typefaces that are not only functional but also rich in narrative and cultural depth.
