About the family

ITC Franklin Gothic is a typeface with a rich history based on the early American sans serif of the 1900s. Still, its design doesn’t look archaic and is made both for book text setting and for use on the screen. The bold styles of Franklin Gothic work well in headings and advertising.

Franklin Gothic was designed by Morris Benton and published by American Type Founders in 1904. In 1980, Victor Caruso designed its variation, ITC Franklin Gothic, for the International Typeface Corporation.

The ITC version is significantly expanded in weight and is suitable for text setting, headings and display typography, due to slightly narrowed proportions and large x-height.

The Cyrillic version was designed by Isay Slutsker and Tatiana Lyskova for Paratype (ParaGraph) in 1995. Twelve narrow styles were added by Isay Slutsker and Dmitry Kirsanov in 2000.

ITC Franklin Gothic™ is a trademark of Monotype ITC Inc. and may be registered in certain jurisdictions.
