About the family

Brahmi is the earliest, most influential ancient Indian script, dating back to the 3rd century BCE (or earlier), serving as the ancestor to almost all modern South/Southeast Asian scripts. As an abugida, it combines consonants and vowels, largely written left-to-right, most famously used in Emperor Ashoka's edicts. Key Features of the Brahmi Script:

  • Structure: An abugida where consonant characters include an inherent vowel (default 'a'). Vowel changes are marked by diacritics (mātrās).

  • Direction: Typically written left-to-right, though early right-to-left examples exist.

  • Decipherment: Decoded in 1836 by James Prinsep.

  • Influence: Developed into northern (Gupta, Nagari) and southern (Pallava, Tamil-Brahmi) variations, ultimately impacting hundreds of scripts. Origins and Evolution:

    • Historical Evidence: Clearly attested in the 3rd century BCE Ashokan inscriptions.

    • Theories: Scholars have debated its origins, with some suggesting a derivation from Semitic scripts, while others argue for an earlier, indigenous development from Indus Valley graffiti or early pottery, dating back to as early as the 6th century BCE.

    • Evolution: By the 6th century CE, it diverged into regional variants. Northern Brahmi evolved into the Gupta script, leading to Devanagari, while Southern Brahmi produced scripts for Dravidian languages and Southeast Asia

About Runic World Tamgacı

As my interest in rune writings grew, it became inevitable for me to make my own fonts. It was time to put all these years of hard work into action. This foundry, named Runic World Tamgacı, was prepared as a platform for the distribution of font studies developed on Old European Runic inscriptions, Old Asian Runic inscriptions, Old Hungarian Runic inscriptions, Runic inscriptions found in Africa and Arabian geography, and Italic inscriptions such as Etruscan and Iberian. These fonts, which have high aesthetic design and a full list of letters, will serve as a wide source especially for academic studies and amateur researchers, including derivative letters. It will also please enthusiasts interested in this field. The inventory of the foundry will be constantly updated and expanded with new additions to the fonts of these mysterious ancient inscriptions. These Runic studies were made from scratch by looking at the relevant sources.
