About the family

Philip is a humanist serif typeface that finds its beauty in subtle deviation — familiar in form, yet deliberately askew. Inspired by Philip Carey, the protagonist of W. Somerset Maugham's "Of Human Bondage" — a man ordinary at heart, yet sharpened by his club foot — the typeface translates that tension into letterforms. Where humanist serifs typically curve, Philip turns straight, giving the design an edge that feels precise rather than cold. The tail of the Q takes on a clubbed, rounded form: a direct nod to the character himself. Philip shines at display sizes, where its details command attention. In shorter text settings, the sharpness remains — subtle, but present. Ideal for editorial design, book covers, fashion branding, and headline use.
