About the family

Pragmatica Next is a contemporary versatile neo-grotesque with a huge range of possibilities. Neo-grotesques as a type category emerged in the second half of the 20th century and became the hallmark of Swiss typography and the international typographic style. How to use it. Pragmatica Next works for almost everything: branding and identity, interfaces, packaging, signage, long text paragraphs, including on the web. The text styles do not draw unnecessary attention — they simply look good in a setting. Bolder, lighter, narrower, or wider styles retain their neutral contemporary character while remaining expressive and scaling effortlessly to any size. History. Pragmatica Next is a reimagining of Pragmatica, the iconic Cyrillic neo-grotesque inspired by Helvetica, originally designed by Vladimir Yefimov and others. Compared to the original Pragmatica, Pragmatica Next features more contemporary letterforms, reduced contrast, and tighter spacing. System of styles. The key difference of Pragmatica Next is its greatly expanded range of styles: 60 uprights and 60 italics, spanning from Hairline to Black in weight and from Tight to Wide in width. This diversity is organized into two variable fonts — upright and italic. The extra-light, extra-bold, extra-narrow, and extra-wide styles were drawn from scratch and do not replicate the extremes of the historical Pragmatica. Character set. Pragmatica Next supports Extended Latin — covering all Western and Central European languages, and Extended Cyrillic. The character set also includes multiple figure and currency styles, indices, arrows, and case-sensitive forms. For more variety in design, the typeface offers a square-dot set and stylistic alternates for “a” — including a single-storey form in italics. One of the key features of Pragmatica Next is the built-in typographer. It automatically removes double spaces, inserts correct dashes and quotation marks, and more. To stop worrying about microtypography, just enable stylistic set ss19. Primary font characteristics are as follows: - 6 widths: Tight, Compressed, Condensed, Normal, Extended, Wide - 120 styles, each with 950+ glyphs - 14 OpenType features, including stylistic alternates - Supports 230+ languages - 2 Variable fonts
