Saad D. Abulhab
Type designer, librarian, and systems engineer Saad D. Abulhab, grew up in Karbala and Baghdad, Iraq. He attended the University of Baghdad, and holds a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic University and a master degree in library and information science from Pratt Institute, both in New York. Residing in the US since 1979, he designed his first traditional Arabic font in 1992. A member of major international typography organizations, Mr. Abulhab writes frequently to forums and journals about Arabic typography topics both in English and in Arabic. His original Mutamathil type style, designed in 1999, was awarded U.S. design patent No. D435,584 in the year 2000 and U.S. utility patent No. 6,704,116 in the year 2004 and has generated significant international media coverage. Saad has published two books and several articles in scholarly journals about Arabic script and language history, typography, and computing. He contributes regularly to discussions of Arabic related topics on international typography and archeology forums.
