About Semikolon Fonts

Semikolon typefaces are characterized by clearly distinguished letterforms. They were developed to minimize confusion between similar characters, thereby supporting reading motivation and the learning process. Thanks to their high legibility, Semikolon fonts are used in numerous books — including publications by Loewe Verlag — as well as in adult education centers, other educational institutions, and learning apps for all age groups. Since 2009, the German Federal Association for Literacy and Basic Education has been using Semikolon Plus, a typeface from the Semikolon family, across various media for reading materials as well as informational and teaching resources in adult education. Learners in literacy courses particularly benefit from the fonts’ excellent legibility and clearly designed letterforms. The name “Semikolon” is derived from the punctuation mark of the same name (Greek for “half colon”), which separates sentence parts with deliberate weight—reflecting the consciously differentiated and clearly separated letterforms of Semikolon typefaces.
