About the family

SigRuna Elder Futhark In General
The SigRuna Elder Futhark font was created around the so-called Common Germanic Futhark, also known as the Elder Futhark, whose use is documented for at least 2000 years and it is even assumed by some rune researchers that the Elder Futhark is the basis of all other writing systems. In addition to the basic runes, it offers a variety of traditional alternative forms, according to the descriptions in Edred Thorsson's book ‘Futhark - Handbook of Rune Magic’, published in 1984. Furthermore, fall and turn runes, numerals, currency signs, arrows, numerous symbols and standard punctuation marks as well as special runic punctuation marks are included.

Majuscle Letters

The basal runes of the Elder Futhark as well as their fall and turn runes are integrated in the uppercase character table. Although umlauts were not part of the original Futhark, the umlaut glyphs in ‘SigRuna Elder Futhark’ are supplemented with corresponding characters as they are known from various historical sources.

Minuscle Letters

Alternative forms to the standard runic forms can be found in the lowercase character table.

Future Updates

Eldarion Skriptorium is currently working on offering even more font weights for ‘SigRuna Elder Futhark’. The alternative forms in the lowercase character table are also to be provided in the future with their fall and turn runes.
