TipoType
Founded in 2009 by Vicente Lamónaca, Fernando Díaz and Martin Sommaruga, Tipotype is the first foundry to ever call Uruguay home. “Our common goal,” they say, “is to distribute contemporary typefaces while creating a platform that allows type designers to easily commercialize their work.” The foundry made its MyFonts debut with Economica and Quiroga Serif: the first Uruguayan fonts ever sold. Since then, the group’s bestselling typefaces have included a geometric sans with a humanistic softness, Mariné, and Libertad. Hoping to increase the presence of type designers in their home country, they say, “As we are the only type foundry in our country, we are trying to get new designers to start commercializing their typefaces with TipoType through MyFonts.” You can find more information about TipoType and its resident designers, in the July 2017 issue of Creative Characters.
