About the family

The original designs for this new typeface were the work of manga artist Tsutomu Nihei, the mind behind series such as NingyÅ no kuni [Country of dolls] and Shidonia no kishi [Knights of Sidonia]. Under Niheiâ€™s supervision, we developed a compelling new typeface that captures the artistâ€™s aesthetic with an emphasis on straight, rigid lines, a bare minimum of synthetic curves, and a focus on sleek, simplified parts.

Iwata Corporation is one of Japan's oldest and respected type companies, with one of the largest collections of high quality Japanese fonts designed for print and digital applications. Iwata's font collection contains many popular Mincho and Gothic style fonts in addition to brush and education-specific fonts.
