Scrubby is for new merchandise that needs to look like old merchandise.
Its broad, exuberant serif forms draw on the swashy display lettering of the late 1960s and 1970s, but the surface is what gives Scrubby its particular usefulness. Instead of looking scratched, chipped or mechanically distressed, the letters have a softened, fuzzy wear that resembles ink printed on cotton and faded through years of washing. It feels less like a retro font with damage added afterward and more like lettering that has actually lived on a garment.
That makes Scrubby especially effective for throwback sportswear. Vintage-style team shirts, alumni collections, tennis and running apparel, ringer tees, crewnecks and recreational-club merchandise often need something softer than varsity slabs or condensed athletic lettering. Licensed heritage merchandise creates an even broader role. Film studios, record labels, television properties, automotive companies and established consumer brands often need fresh typography to sit beside archival images, old logos or anniversary artwork. Scrubby gives collection names, tour reissues, anniversary shirts, fictional company names and supporting slogans a surface that already belongs beside faded graphics and washed fabric.
Ski lodges, tennis resorts, coastal hotels, heritage amusement parks and other established destinations can use the same language for club-shop apparel, souvenir sweatshirts and anniversary collections. Heritage recreation brands can apply it to archive-inspired skiing, hiking, canoeing, fishing or cycling merchandise, while automotive and motorcycle brands can use it for anniversary racing shirts, dealership-inspired graphics and historic model collections.
Scrubby’s texture does more than signal age. It helps newly created lettering sit comfortably beside archival photography, faded illustrations and genuinely old trademarks without requiring every word to be distressed by hand. The swashes provide the period vocabulary; the worn surface makes the illusion convincing.
