About the family

Sinzano is a tribute to the interlocking letterforms that once defined the covers of 1960s and 1970s jazz and lounge albums. In that era, phototype allowed designers to manually fit characters together for a custom, connected look. By the 1980s, dry transfer lettering made such complex arrangements impractical—until digital typography and technology brought them back. Released in 2005, Sinzano was among the first digital fonts to use large sets of ligatures for spontaneous, automated interlocking.

The family includes three styles. Sinzano Regular is a slender, slightly flared serif design with a refined, headlining presence—ideal for titles, marquees, and statement typography. Sinzano Sans removes the flares for a cleaner, more contemporary feel while keeping the same rhythmic flow. Sinzano Display takes the concept in a broader, rounder direction, offering the interlocking effect in a format suited to larger, more open settings.

Across all styles, hundreds of contextual ligatures allow letters to connect fluidly, turning lines of text into continuous visual patterns without manual adjustment. Extended Latin language support ensures that the same interlocking effect works in a wide range of European languages.

Sinzano blends retro charm with digital precision—a functional, ready-to-use take on one of typography’s most distinctive decorative traditions.
