Lafonts

After completing an apprenticeship as an engraver, Daniel Lanz – who was born in 1958 in Schaffhausen (Switzerland) – spent 20 years engraving letterforms and contours into metal. Further education as a typographic designer – with intensive study of works of Gill, Meier, and Frutiger – considerably deepened his interest in the forms and effects of typography. Today it is quite simple to copy, open and modify an existing font. The glyphs of the fonts offered by Lafonts have been newly conceived and drawn individually. We believe type design to be a craft, even when the glyphs in their final form are digital.
