About the family

R41 Elite is a script typeface — not derived from a geometric framework but created with tools such as brushes that allow for greater imagination and freedom. Created by Aldo Novarese in 1969 for the Nebiolo Foundry in Turin, it is an elegant typeface that is pleasant to read and easy to use. Although the letters are separate, the optical sensation of calligraphic continuity remains intact. Excessive contrast between thin and thick strokes is avoided to ensure good legibility even in long texts. The design is deliberately simple, so as not to subject the typeface to ephemeral trends. Designed to last, Elite is ideal for all those projects where overly classic and severe typefaces can be replaced by a lively yet sober script (business cards, letterheads, various announcements, invitations, greetings, wedding invitations, covers, title pages, etc.).

About Reber R41

Reber R41 is an Italian company founded in Spresiano, Treviso, in 1960 by Renato Bernardi, inventor of his own method of dry transfer type, and still run by his family. Since 1969, R41 has produced dry-transfer adaptations of iconic designs from Nebiolo Type Foundry, including its most experimental creations designed for the booming Italian advertising industry. Designer Aldo Novarese, who retired from Nebiolo in the early ’70s, worked with Reber R41 for years afterward designing brands, catalogues, advertising and of course…typefaces. Now Reber R41 provides new digitizations of the work of Novarese and Nebiolo of Turin, brought together in a unique collection that preserves the best of historic Italian typography of the twentieth century.
