About the family

Inkunabula is a typeface designed in 1911, inspired by the letterforms used by Erhard Ratdolt, one of the most renowned printers of the fifteenth century. The roman is closely based on Kalendarium by Johannes Müller, reproduced almost unchanged under the artistic direction of Raffaello Bertieri. The italic was added later, in 1926.

This typeface is deeply rooted in the typographic style of the 1400s, characterized by its sharply slanted counters. Despite its historical origins, it stands out for its timeless elegance and surprisingly modern readability.

Inkunabula Nova is a reinterpretation of this historic typeface, redesigned for improved readability for the modern reader: the N and M have been redrawn, along with many other letters, and the numerals now have uppercase versions.
