About the family

Forme Grotesque, by Jeremy Johnson, explores the richness of the 19th century British Grotesque genre. The design draws on inspiration from a number of British type foundries, including Grotesques from Stephenson Blake, Monotype and Miller & Richard. Johnson looked at the particular idiosyncrasies and imperfections of these early typefaces, attempting to put these through a contemporary lens, whilst retaining a nuanced spirit throughout an extensive type family that spans a wide range of weights, and over multi language writing systems.

About Forme Type

A Forme is a letterpress term meaning: A body of type secured in a chase ready for printing. Forme type is an ongoing (ever expanding project). The idea to set up a small independent type foundry started with a few sketch book ideas and college projects exploring different avenues in typography. Over the last 10+ years, whilst work- ing and traveling the small idea’s and projects have grown into a number of font families. Which include Latin Greek Cyrillic and Arabic scripts.
