Gregory T Stevens is the son of a painter and a scientist, and so was born with an impulse to be both creative and highly technical. He received a B.A. and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, studying how the mind perceives and categorizes the world in order to make decisions. Although he has left academia, that background plays an important role in everything he does, including his font design work. He has also been an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy his entire life. (He tells people he has been a fan since before he was born, because his mother watched Dr. Who when she was pregnant with him, and he swears that it must have had an impact!)
