Typekirk

Kelly Hobkirk was born in Portland, Oregon and has lived in the Pacific Northwest most of his life. His father introduced him to hand-lettered calligraphy at age eight, and he later gained a formal calligraphy education. He learned to love type and graphic design in high school under the wing of an exceptional teacher, earned a scholarship and college degree in design and advertising, and became a graphic designer, publication designer, and ad agency art director in Seattle by age nineteen. In his early twenties, he was writing and designing million-dollar advertising for local, national, and international clientele. Kelly's packaging design and custom type have been featured in Time Magazine, Redbook, KNOCK, and books published by Rockport and Rotovision. Type has always been a key component in his designs. As his career evolved into brand development, he was intrinsically drawn to type design, for type's unique ability to articulate the character of people through their brands. Hobkirk designs contemporary custom typefaces and retail fonts that stand the test of time. Visit his website to view more of his work, or follow him on Twitter @Typekirk.
