About the family

Saskya is a romantic script inspired by 17th-century Dutch etching lettering. During a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, an exhibition of Rembrandt’s etchings revealed a remarkable detail — a portrait of the preacher Jan Cornelis Sylvius surrounded by beautifully rendered Latin script, written directly onto the engraving plate in reverse. The hand was fluid, expressive, and unmistakably human. That historic lettering became the foundation for Saskya. Named after Rembrandt’s wife, Saskia, this typeface channels the warmth and intimacy of old-world manuscript writing while refining it into a fully usable modern script. Many ligatures and glyph variants were drawn directly from the original etching, then expanded through careful historical research and sensitive interpretation to complete the alphabet. OpenType features provide access to contextual alternates and ligatures, allowing compositions to feel organic and authentically varied. Saskya carries the texture of ink on plate — romantic, literary, and steeped in tradition. It is ideal for formal invitations, book projects, historical branding, certificates, and any design seeking an “old world” handwritten presence.

About Dear Alison

Dear Alison is the creation of Alison Argento, a travel writer based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Although her work dictates that she spend most of her time typing and editing at the computer keyboard, she prefers the traditional look and feel of handwritten letters and the freehand lettering arts along with the look of vintage type. Dear Alison fonts are meant to bring the handcrafted feel of personal correspondence to the digital age.
