About the family

Seemingly “Techno meets Blackletter”, it is hard to believe that this design dates back to the 1930s. Based on the Johannes-Type designed by Johannes Schulz for the Genzsch & Heyse type foundry in Hamburg, we have digitized and extended this distinctive and unusual typeface. JAF Johannes Original is a faithful revival of the original design while JAF Johannes features re-designed contemporary shapes for some letters.

Founded in 2004, Just Another Foundry is operated by Tim Ahrens and Shoko Mugikura – a type designer and a typographer, respectively.
