About Reba Samuels Font Family

Reba Samuels is based on the 2007 release Rebecca Samuels. While Rebecca was largely intended for text use Reba aims to be more versatile with an extended weight scope and added cut varieties. While Rebecca’s slab character is developed in the Reba serif, the ’seriffed’ italic of Rebecca is abandoned in favor of a simple italic sans, better matching the serif in plain text. The weight extremes are very useful for headlines while the middles do better in text. The robust and angular shapes of the serif matches the straightforward sans. The extreme contrast between the thin and the black cuts opens up great opportunities in any design project.

About Samuelstype

Samuelstype Design is run by Hans Samuelson, freelance graphic designer specialized in package design and typography. Having started out as a calligrapher, he has been custom fonts for major productions since 1995. ”In the beginning, drawing fonts was the ultimate design project; it grew out of my desire to draw letters and unless it was a commission, I was free to do whatever I wanted and take as long as I wished. Also, the problem-solving mentality required to match it all up in the end suited me perfectly. Creating a font design means creating a toolbox for further creativity; It is a finished product which is interesting in itself as well as a means and a tool for further creativity. As time has moved on, I can now find the freedom of limitations less inspiring and prefer a commission where the boundaries are clear and I can get right to creative problemsolving”.
