Although firmly entrenched in typographic tradition, Terrance Weinzierl’s Kairos™ typeface is something truly new. “Grecians” were a popular typestyle of the 19^th century. These were slab serif designs with octagonal corners. They were powerful, commanding typefaces that stood out from the crowd. Most, however, were small families of only one or two weights, and none had italic designs.

The story of Kairos begins with an “aha!” moment. Weinzierl had been toying on-and-off with the idea of a new interpretation of the Grecian typestyle for some time. For almost four years, he’d been thinking about the potential of a new octagonal slab serif, experimenting with design possibilities. The style intrigued him, and he began to consider possibilities for a multi-weight, modern interpretation.

When three different custom font clients showed interest in such a design, Weinzierl knew it was time to take his experimentation to the next stage. The result is Kairos, a typeface that can provide a fresh look to a wide variety of projects.

A robust, 51-font family, The Kairos designs span a full palette of weights and widths; including complementary italics and small caps, as well as layering display designs.
