About the family

Capitolina is a family of 10 typefaces with a contemporary design style, based on different historical models. The original shape of serifs was a reference to 19th century’s Clarendon types though this inspiration remains as a subtle feature of the final design. Even subtler are the calligraphic influences, better noticed in the italics. The result is a set of typefaces that look more ‘constructed’ than ‘written’, referring to a rationalist style. However, it has a distinct approach to the aesthetic treatment of typographic forms that resembles the humanist tradition. Available in five weights of roman and italic types, Capitolina has a wide glyph palette that contains 800 glyphs in each font. Besides supporting basic Latin, western, central, and southeastern European sets, it has several OpenType features, such as case-sensitive forms, small capitals, ligatures, localized forms, number forms, fractions and more. Capitolina is, therefore, a great choice for projects in editorial design and other related applications.

About Typefolio

Marconi Lima, founder of TypeFolio, has a deep passion for typographic forms, as highlighted in his Creative Characters interview. His love for books and reading has led him to appreciate that letters convey more than mere words. Based in Brazil, Marconi began his design career in an advertising agency in the mid-1990s, where he recognized the crucial role typography plays in communication and business. This experience sparked his interest in creating type families and understanding their designers. His agency work involved hand-drawing numerous ad layouts, packaging designs, and logotypes, offering him valuable insights into type design. This journey immersed him in the international type community, fostering essential relationships and enhancing his knowledge of type history and technology. His dedication culminated in the 2007 release of his first type family, Adriane Text, which was celebrated as a Rising Star and later recognized by Tipos Latinos. Since then, Marconi's involvement in the type business has grown significantly, allowing him to continue designing typefaces. The release of Madre Script in 2014 marked his transition from art director to the head of an independent foundry. By fully dedicating himself to TypeFolio, he strengthened its ties to the design market, resulting in diverse commissions ranging from icon creation and logo refinement to customizing typefaces from the TypeFolio library. Marconi finds the most rewarding aspect of typeface design in seeing how others utilize his fonts. As an independent type designer, he enjoys the freedom to navigate between projects that address specific needs and more informal endeavors, all rooted in his personal observations and ideas about typography and design. TypeFolio is distinguished by its commitment to innovative design and its deep connection to the evolving landscape of typography, making it a unique player in the industry.
