FOUNDRY: FontFont
DESIGNER: Jens Kutilek
CLASSIFICATION: Casual Handwriting Script
BEST PRACTICES
Use sparingly, in informal contexts, for children’s materials or casual communication. Avoid professional documents, maintain readability, and ensure it complements the design aesthetic.
FAMILY
Uberhand Text family has two weights, Regular and Bold, with spacing and color tuned for longer text settings on paper or screen. The 11 versatile weights from Hairline to Black of the headline family, called FF Uberhand, are display designs with tighter spacing and a less irregular characters.
FONT FACTS
- The Regular weight of the FF Uberhand Text family also contains many icons, dingbats and symbols.
- FF Uberhand Text is more lively and more generously spaced version of the typeface. It is at home in sizes from 6—16 points on paper and on screen.
ROOTS
After several failed experiments in drawing the letters, it became clear to Kutilek that the best and most effective method was writing on a pen tablet directly in the font editor. He then, would move these rough shapes into the background layer and redraw them completely so he could get the exact look he wanted.
LEGIBILITY
Not for books or long text copy, Uberhand is a lively, but precisely drawn typeface. It performs consistently at virtually any size.

Quarto is designed for headlines and subheads. A large x-height, short descenders, and small serifs invite both tight tracking and solid linespacing. Quarto can be an excellent choice for setting display copy in print or on-screen.
Gotham’s unfussy directness and authority, especially in its heavier weights, create a brawny mien, while lighter weights are elegant and stylish.
